Signs of a defective shock absorber
Shock absorbers are one of the most important parts of a vehicle, also in the area of safety.
Not only comfort is influenced by the shock absorbers, but also braking efficiency and driving stability.
The shock absorber and the coil spring reduce and brake vibrations and adapt the chassis to the unevenness of the road. If the shock absorber no longer functions properly, it must be urgently replaced.
But how do I recognise a defective shock absorber?
If during the "seesaw test", where the vehicle is rocking at the wing if possible, you notice that your car is rocking several (>2-3) times, this is clearly a reason to have its suspension checked in a specialist workshop.
Defective suspension components also cause irregular wear of the tyre tread and incorrect tracking.
In general, if you experience a perceived spongy driving sensation, on particularly winding roads, you should urgently consider having your suspension checked. This would no longer guarantee a safe ride. Also rumbling noises during a ride are an indication for a defective shock absorber.
